Entry #76: 13 Mar 1859, Benjarmin Franklin Fuller (or maybe it is Faller) married Riviola Davis Abbott Beckett, both are of "full" age; Benjamin is a widower and Riviola is a Spinister; profession of Benjamin is Silk Merchant and resides at Bedford Street, Liverpool; Riviola has no profession and resides in Manchester; father's name of Benjamin is Samuel Newell Fuller whose profession is Gentleman and father's name of Riviola is Oliver Beckett whose profession is Broker. The witnesses' signatures of this marriage are very difficult to read. |

However, the document does not indicate the date of discharge. Willard's oldest son believes that he was discharged in 1941 or 1942 just as the US was forced into World War II. |

This document is a copy of a ship's manifest listing all passenagers.
The document is difficult to read and was edited electronically for presentation here.
The heading reads partially as: "Report or Manifest of all Passenagers taken on board the Steam Ship City of Glosgow, whereas William Wylie is Master, from Liverpool burthen .... Tons and owned by Richardson .... of Liverpool and bound to Philadelphia.
I William Wylie do solemnly, sincerely and truly (swear)... that the Report or Manifest subscribed with my name, and how delivered by me to the Collector of the District of Philadelphia, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passenagers which were on board the ... City of ... at the time of her sailing from the Port of Philadelphia or which have been taken on board at any time since: that I am at present, and have been during the voyage, Master of the said vessel. And that I do likewise (swear)... that all matters whatsoever in the said Report or Manifest are, to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true.
(Sworn).. before me, this 22nd day of March 1853."
Document was signed by William Wylie and the Collector.
Column Headings of the report include (from left to right) No., Name, Age, Sex, Occupation, To what country belonging, Country to which it is their intention to become inhabitants, Number and Names of Passenagers who have Died on the voyage, Number of Packages, baggage.
Oliver Becket was listed as passenager number 4 of the Storage Passenagers (see boxed in entry of the document). Information states Oliver was 19 years of age, a farmer, bound to New York from Ireland with no baggage. |

The heading reads partially as: "Report or Manifest of all Passengers taken on board the Steam Ship City of Glosgow, whereas William Wylie is Master, from Liverpool burthen .... Tons and owned by Richardson .... of Liverpool and bound to Philadelphia. I William Wylie do solemnly, sincerely and truly (swear)... that the Report or Manifest subscribed with my name, and how delivered by me to the Collector of the District of Philadelphia, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers which were on board the ... City of ... at the time of her sailing from the Port of Philadelphia or which have been taken on board at any time since: that I am at present, and have been during the voyage, Master of the said vessel. Event program of the 1936 Golden Gloves Tournament of Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan which appears to be for Western Michigan only as there are no participants from Lansing or Detroit listed on the program. There has been a story that was told to Willard Simmons' family that he actually participated in the 1936 Golden Gloves in Grand Rapids. However, his name does not appear within this program. So the likely conclusion is that Willard attended the event but did not participate. |

Joseph's age seems to be written as 22 years of age when he is actually 25 years of age and brother Arthur's age is actually 44 at the time of this census. Joseph's occupation is listed as a Factory Worker and Arthur's occupation is stated as Filer Factory. Also, this census indicates that Joseph owns his residence on West Main Street. |

(40, born in Pennsylvania), his father Elizur Eddy (87, born in New York) and niece Emma Eddy (21, born in Pennsylvania). There are two boarders residing here also, they are: William M. Jervis (40, born in Pennsylvania) working as a Farmer and George Culbertson (20, born in Pennsylvania) working as a Laborer.
Jerome's occupation is stated as Laborer. (Note: the 1850 census has Jerome aged 22 so that would mean that in 1880 Jerome should be 52 years of age not 47. I believe that I have the correct family on this census so it would appear that the enumerator is incorrect in Jerome's age for the 1880 census.)

Elijus' occupation is not stated. This census indicates that Elijus has $600 in real property and $150 value in personal property. There are a couple of concerns in this census, they are: 1. the enumerator apparently has misspelled the surname Edda and is most likely Eddy. 2. Sophia is stated to be 61 years of age and was born in Vermont. 3. All other data seems to match up with Elijah Eddy and wife Sophia. |
